Here is the place where we can give beer reviews so we can all keep abreast of the latest beer developments. Post pics, and how you liked or didn't like it! We have a legacy at TDN of being fairly educated beer connoisseurs. And when we do meet and greets, you'll know what to bring! I'll start with a good one from the archive! This is Great Lakes Edmund Fitzgerald Porter...or simply "Eddie Fitz" It's rich with good head, great chocolate notes and you can alter it's bitterness with temperature. Keep it ice cold, and it'll be sharp as hell. Let it sit at room temp for 15 minutes, and the drink ability improves. It's great this time of year and 6.0 abv, you can pace yourself really well! Get some, you won't be disappointed. It's the best thing to come out of Cleveland since......well, it's probably the best thing to ever come out of Cleveland, we're not gonna lie!

I've started home brewing this year and one of such is my take on Bell's Oberon...a great summer wheat beer. The Oberon logo is a sunshine and it inspired me to produce a darker version... #BlackSunshine Oberon is solid wheat beer with a slight spicy hop bite and mildly fruity aromas. My version adds a slightly darker wheat malt to give caramel notes. At 6.3% abv...it can sneak up on you and pack a punch if you have a few too many.

Product Review: Todd Nunes...aka Metal Cowboy presented some liquid to swill on to us recently. And since this is the place for that kind of thing, here is the official review! Name: Black Sunshine Brewery: Rubber Down Brewing Company (Pennsylvania) ABV: 6.3% Belch Factor: 10 out of possible 10- Possible whiplash incurred!! Details: (pouring) This was poured at an angle, I have no idea what angle. Does anybody truly carry a protractor with them when they drink beer? I don't think so! Anyhow it was an angle, not right angle, or an obtuse one, maybe about 35 degrees. I don't know, I don't care either. And it was poured into a standard glass which was chilled. Sample was removed from the refrigerator and registered 38 degrees at time of the pour. Head: This beer gives some pretty good head! Not like I've had a lot lately, so any head is gonna seem like good head. Sill though it measured at least an inch thick, maybe more. Do you honestly think I carry a damn ruler with me when I drink beer? I've been told how much an inch is by other folks, and it looked like a good inch to inch and a half! It's a beige head, and gives off a little flowery/hoppy essence. But not total girly type flowery essence like I get in an IPA either. That is all I have to say about head! Taste: Upon first sip, I get some subtle citrus notes and some spiciness going on. I decide to let it temp up a little bit. I detect a little of a sour/bitter edge, it's definitely acidic slightly up top, but down low, there's balance, like the aroma and flavors are working in perfect harmony, much like a super late model rolling through the turns looking very much balanced. Detect nothing in sample that could be considered tire prep chemical despite the name "Black Sunshine" which was what I was fearing before tasting. Color: It's Amber, the name of my favorite stripper at this flesh bar I used to attend years ago! She was awesome, nice rack, pretty smile and a very inviting personality. A lot like this beer which has much of the same characteristics that she did. Without the nice rack. Overall: This one is a winner! Decide to drink it slow to savor the flavor. It's one true standout quality, is it's drink ability, and you don't need to hang a damn orange off the side of the glass like a Blue Moon. It's already in there. It's got a dual purpose, fits well with more of a hammer down feel in the summertime, and will make you feel cozy in the winter! And at 6.3%, you'll only need about 5 on an empty stomach to start walking into walls!! This stuff has an edge, but a good sense of balance at the same time. Highly Recommended!!!

Stone Brewing Xocoveza Winter spiced mocha stout. 8.1% First the taste of sweet and bitter chocolate. Then you get toffee, burnt sugar, and dark oats. Next a slight, subdued spiciness. The cinnamon and nutmeg combine with coffee notes to make that spiciness with the chili peppers slighly adding warmth. Then you go full circle to get a bittersweet cocoa finish and are left with that same flavor after eating dark chocolate. An awesome beer. Wish I hadn't just picked one up in a mixed 6... I give it a 4.25 out a 5.
