So..this was recently posted at a track that had a ppv of the racing that particular night. Tracks have the right to post this of course! Should they be taking a look at a bigger picture though? What do you think?

If a track is worried about a grainy shakey and often laggy video deturring fans from coming to the track, they probably need to examine their business as a whole. "I'll just stay home and hope someone lifestream's it" said no race fan ever.
Live streaming actually can help tracks by generating interest for them from fans that wouldn't normally go there. For the casual fan, if it looks cool on a 4 inch screen they can guarantee it is going to be 10x better in person. For the diehard, it's likely they are watching because they cant be there because of other commitments or its a track hundreds of miles away. This can lead to them planning a subsequent trip to the facility or event in the future.

when dod started ppv of cedar lake usa nats, i ordered it as i had heard good things about the track, after watching the ppv ... the wife and i made plans to attend the next season and the next season
i dont do the spacebook , but have used the periscope both as veiwer and broadcaster as veiwer ive been able to watch races from all over the country and actually tracks ive never heard of before , also ive added tracks to my bucket list because of what ive watched on periscope as broadcaster , i took it upon myself to ask both the series and tracks permission and so far ive only received positive feedback
so im all for it , more eyes on it the better

It's within the speedway's right to disallow people to stream. However, I don't think it's a good idea for tracks to do so. From watching Dirtvision and other streams I've seen tracks within my distance I'd like to go to someday down the line. The streams also can generate more potential interest in people who haven't been to a race before. Wayne county speedway in Ohio uses Periscope frequently during their events, and it interested me enough to go back to the track after a rough first visit there. Been my #2 track to go in the area ever since. If I hadn't seen the car counts via Periscope I may have never went back to the track.

The folks over at wayne county have used periscope alot and in the right way. To promote the speedway. To answer questions live. To show updates to the facilty. And to tease fans. Lots of props to them.

That's a strange factor too. Look at the amount of tracks doing their own periscoping and facebook live. Are they self sabotaging their own gate? Hell no...they're keeping current with today's marketing strategies.

I'd like to hear a promoters take on this issue. I haven't read any seemingly anywhere.

another question , what happens when its a crew member streaming? or a drivers parent?
i watched a few nights on periscope that were from someone traveling with a team on the allstar sprint speedweek

I personally, am not a fan of somebody who periscopes or fb lives a whole feature. But live snippets or heat races or hot laps are just fine by me. To be fair most people who do the "live" thing have some choppy stuff going on, but enough to gauge the track and crowd and what drivers are on hand. And it's funny, drivers families do a lot of the live stuff. Chet Christner at Speed Shift will tell you, at the races, they get tons of views and ppv sales from families and teams in the haulers at the track.

I agree with Skiz on this one. The quality of the video isn't any good on Facebook Live to begin with so I can't see any fans not going to races specifically watch via those methods, but little snipets can certainly help the track out. And the PPV thing I think is great all around. When you can't make it to the track, but you're able to watch from home this is a viable option, plus the track receives money for this.
